How Average Price Per kWh Is Calculated

The average price per kilowatt-hour (kWh) shown for each Houston electric provider is based on standard monthly usage tiers:

• 1,000 kWh per month (typical apartment or small home)

• 2,000 kWh per month (typical medium-to-large home)

These estimated rates include both fixed and variable local utility charges (such as CenterPoint Energy delivery fees). Because these numbers reflect average usage patterns, your actual electricity bill will vary based on your exact monthly kWh consumption.

Fixed-Rate vs. Variable-Rate Electricity Plans
